Narma is a fashion retail store in Al Quoz, Dubai. Zolo Interiors was brought in to design a space that does what every good fashion retail interior has to do: put the product first, guide customers naturally through the store, and reflect the brand’s identity in every material and finish choice not just in the clothes on the rail.
The Challenge
Retail fashion interiors carry a specific brief that goes beyond simply making a space look attractive:
- Product has to lead the design, not compete with it. A retail interior that’s visually loud in its own right can actually distract from the merchandise the space needed to support the product, not upstage it.
- Customer flow and dwell time. How a shopper moves through a store directly affects what they see, what they try on, and ultimately what they buy layout decisions had to be made with that journey in mind, not just visual arrangement.
- Flexible merchandising. Fashion retail changes stock frequently with the seasons and new collections the space needed display systems and layout flexibility that could adapt without requiring a redesign every time inventory changes.
- Fitting rooms as part of the experience. For fashion retail specifically, the fitting room is where a purchase decision is actually made lighting, mirrors, and comfort in that specific zone matter disproportionately to the rest of the store.
- Brand identity through material, not just signage. The goal was for Narma’s identity to come through in the finishes, lighting tone, and spatial character itself, rather than relying purely on logos and graphics to carry the brand.
Our Approach
Zolo’s team treated Narma as a retail experience to be designed end-to-end, not just a shell to be finished.
Layout built around natural customer flow. The store layout was planned to guide shoppers through key product zones in a natural sequence, rather than presenting merchandise as a flat, undirected grid.
Lighting designed for product, not just ambiance. Lighting was layered specifically to make garments and displays look their best — accurate color rendering and considered accent lighting on key pieces, rather than generic even-coverage retail lighting.
Fitting rooms treated as a priority zone, not an afterthought – with attention to lighting quality, mirror placement, and comfort, since this is where the store’s biggest purchase decisions actually happen.
Flexible display and merchandising systems. Fixtures and display elements were selected to allow the store to be reconfigured as collections change, keeping the space feeling current without requiring structural changes each season.
Material and finish choices that carry the brand. Rather than relying solely on branding elements layered on top, the store’s material palette and finishes were selected to reflect Narma’s identity directly in the space itself.
The Result
Narma now operates as a retail space genuinely built around how people shop for fashion – one that presents product clearly, guides customers naturally, and reflects the brand in every material choice, not just the signage.
